TiVo 3-HD: yippee!

TiVo TiVo TiVo! Hooray!

I jumped off the TiVO bandwagon sometime last year, when my cable provider offered their own , albeit very very mediocre DVR that could also handle HD recording — TiVo has been unable to do that, until now. The rumor mill says that TiVo 3-HD will be released on 9/17 — for a mere $800. The box is designed to replace your existing cable box, saving you about $10/mo and will utilize FCC mandated ‘CableCard’ technology (where your cable guy comes and pops a card into your TiVo — instead of hooking up a cablebox) — giving the little guys a chance to make their own cable box.

I’ve read some things saying it was a nightmare getting it hooked up, so I’ll be waiting awhile for 1) bugs to be fixed and 2) the price to drop … $800 sheeeesh. I loves me the TiVO but lordy.

With TiVO, you can schedule it to record from any web-connected computer — so say you’re at work and you totally forgot to record “The Price is Right” — you can just login to your TiVO account and hit record for Bob Barker’s show… sweetness. (View your flickr pics, play mp3s, … and much more)

A couple weeks ago I signed up for an account on “Second Life” — (a FREE account, mind you) I’ve been completely fascinated with how so many people have spent their REAL actual hard-earned money on a little virtual-world game so I had to check it out. I can see how the game can become addictive but the amount of money that some people spend on… oofah.
At one point, Suzanne Vega participated in an interviewon some stage..where virtual people (representing real-life people) were also in the auditorium watching and listening to a 3D-model version of ‘Vega’ talk about her music.
