Not fun or funny
Bruno Kirby passed away this week at the age of 57 due to complications of leukemia. ![]()
You may remember him as the wagon wheel-coffee table loving husband of Carrie Fisher from “When Harry Met Sally” or as Robin Williams’ a-hole boss in “Good Morning, Vietnam”.
Godfather Part Deux, Tin Men, Sleepers, and City Slickers are some of his other film credits.
This unfortunate event made me remember how unfunny Billy Crystal has become and brought up the discussion last night, over an awesome multi-course assortment served up by Andrea D. about who has actually become funnier with age. (This discussion fell in between “reverse Tourette’s” where you hear people yelling obscene things when they’re not and the FridgeTracker 2000, a shirt that will emit the smells of the items in your fridge via RFID and Bluetooth, and the Jetfersons — [the Jetsons combined with the Jeffersons])
Comedians all are historically funny at the beginning — when they’re struggling — then they get Eddie Murphy-syndrome; get rich, get lazy — then start churning out garbage.
(i.e. “Daddy Day Care”, “Pluto Nash” - see also Adam Sandler, i.e. “Click)
But who has gotten funnier with age? Some names that were tossed out:
1. Lewis Black
2. Jon Stewart
3. George Carlin (acquired taste)
4. Rodney Dangerfield (when alive)
5. George Burns
6. Lloyd Bridges
Who are some others?

Tonight C & Moira host the ultimate bridal shower bash for the soon-to-be-hitched Adrianne H. at our pad — I must admit, event planning is my woman’s forte and this one is gettin’ done up PROPER. Whilst a multitude of women descend upon my apartment, I am scooting out to see “Little Miss Sunshine” the new Greg Kinnear/Steve Carrell joint. GREAT SCOTT! Thoughts and commentary next week.
Tomorrow night the Sheas rock West Virginia — photos of the hogfest coming to a martyz.com near you.

That guy who died was also on entourage last season, no? I guess the discussion on comedians being funny, is partially due to whether or not you count film and scripts as comedic work. are the ones listed reference to their films, or their stand-up. Cuz eddie murphy doesnt do stand up any more, but just makes bad movies. but he doesnt write the scripts.
anyways, if you go the actor route, maybe bill murray? his comedy has gone every angle it seems.
Jerry Stiller is pretty funny and old.
