Girl, Let Your Da Vinci Code Grow!

This is my dad on the knee of a scary looking bear…or I think it’s a bear. This is the old school version of Chuck E. Cheese — instead of a mouse — it’s Stanislaw the Grizzly. I am shocked and awed that he’s not screaming his head off….but rather smiling pleasantly.

The photo was taken in Poland, circa early 50’s.

Remember a couple of months back when I was reading “The Da Vinci Code”? The copy that I had borrowed from the library was misprinted. At THE climax of the book when the good guys were facing the bad guys the book became “Girl, Let Your Money Grow.” My head nearly popped off after discovering that I wouldn’t find out the ending. (I eventually did, thank you pops)

But this book wasn’t mine, it was the library’s — so I returned it, secretly hoping that doing the right thing would pay off. I asked politely if I could keep it — they quikcly replied “NO!!!” and attempted to school me on the whole process of dealing with misprinted books. “First it needs to be stamped, then it goes to the back office, blah blah blah blah”.

But I left my name and number on a card inside the book in the hopes that I’d be contacted to whisk the book away to safety (or ebay). No such luck. But I did the right thing, dagnabbit. That’s what’s important.

I sure had dollar signs in my eyes when I realized what I had — I could retire to sunny Delray Beach, FL –or at least treat my special gal to a night at Denny’s. Not gonna happen.

Well my friends, someone else in the world has a copy of the same misprinted book and they are selling it — right when the movie is being released — a copy of a misprinted Da Vinci Code on eBay — yours for only $9.99. If it sells for more than $50 I will eat my shoe. If sells for the cost of a meal at Denny’s — i’ll eat… my other shoe.

Blast.

Cool vid from myspace — no editing involved — an old B&W film of jazz dancing legends Al & Leon set to “It’s All About the Music” by DJ Z-Trip feat. Whipper Whip.

Pretty suhweet how it all synchs up… old skool meets new.

So martyz.com got slammed with comment spam yesterday — biggest attack yet — over 250 spams all in a day…everything from phenetrine to auto-loans to free mortgage BS. You probably didn’t notice it as they were buried in old entries.

So I signed up with something that seems promising (although everything I’ve done before seemed promising) called Akismet… hopefully mz.com is forever purged.

Two big things going down this weekend — the Book Expo America at the DC Convention Center and the Andrews Air Force Base Air Show or the “Joint Services Open House” as it seems to be dubbed. Tomorrow, come on out ot the Air Show if you live in the DC area — i’ll be there all day with C for JDRF. You can park at FedEx Field and take the shuttle over.

At the Book Expo there’ll be tons of publishers showing off their books and TONS of authors signing books all weekend… featured ‘celeb’ writers include: Alan Thicke, Tommy Chong, Harry Shearer, James Patterson.. and many, many others.

Three things going down this weekend — John C graduates from law school. woohoo!
