This ain’t no 30-second spot…

Companies love to have their product thrown in front of the camera and producers love the money they pay for it… a Nike sneaker here, a Dominos pizza there… it’s all chump change compared to the feature-length Starbucks commercial coming to theaters AND starring Tom Hanks called “How Starbucks Saved My Life.” Gus Van Sant directs.

From ‘The Hollywood Reporter’:
The story centers on an older ad exec who loses his job and family and has to go to work at Starbucks to pay the bills. He befriends the young manager and learns about life and love

Bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeechhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Oh.. excuse me. I just threw up a little bit on my computer monitor.

I actually have a new movie in the works — it’s called, “How Pepto Bismol Cured My Nausea After Hearing About Feature-Length Crapfests”

Last night was JDRF’s Palm Night at “The Palm” in McLean, VA — just another typical Tuesday night — kickin’ it with Shawn Springs of the Redskins and George Mason Basketball Coach Larranega’s son John… you know … steak and lobster dinner…. the usual…blah blah blah….
Gosh… my diamond shoes are soooooo tight….

At no point in the evening of taking photos, did I duck out of the way of the quick-moving waiters to stand up against a column, and lean up against the light control panel and turn off ALL THE LIGHTS in the restaurant during the main presentation. No….I never did that.

I’ve never seen so many wait-staff swarm so quickly.. I got stink-eye from them for the rest of the night…

Who the hell puts the light switch there?!?… geeez.

Here’s a unique find from YouTube via BoingBoing — an old civil defense film starring Gene Hackman.

(The second of two clips from a Cold War ‘relic’ unearthed from the “Golden Age of Homeland Security” - Community Shelter Planning starring Gene Hackman as Civil Defense Regional Officer Donald Ross. The 22 minute training film was made by the Office of Civil Defense/DOD, a forerunner of FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security. )

Unique martyz factoid: My “Media Criticism” teacher at JMU went to college in Texas with Hackman.

Hey question for you (and I know you’ll know!) - Where is the new girl on 24 from. I know I’ve seen her in other things, but my mind’s a blank….

Her name is Kate Mara — she’s done a lot of TV (Jack & Bobby, CSI, Nip Tuck)… most recently she was in “Brokeback Mountain”.

Remember “You’ve Got Mail”? Not only was that an AOL ad, but if I remember correctly there was about a 4 minute scene in a Starbucks where Tom reads off every menu item while making a choice what to buy. Sounds like he was auditioning for “How Starbucks Saved My Life”

Yeah that’s a big one — “WILSON” had a big role in “CastAway” — Tom Hanks sure loves big business.

Maybe in his next movie he can paste ads all over his clothes like a fucking NASCAR car.
