Cybersounds BRP

Diedre, Aaron, STC + the book

This past weekend was the launch party for M. Ayers most recent literary achievement, “Cybersounds: Essays on Virtual Music Culture” and a visit from the coolest gal in Chi-town, Miss Jessica T. — Pete S. and I drove up to NYC on Sat AM to kick it wth the NYC peoples… C hung back in A-town with Jessica in DC for a wedding.

The book release party (BRP) was held at Uncle Ming’s in doontoon NYC…thanks to one of Mike Ayer’s students (who’s somehow connected to the late Aaliyah), the bar opened early and let us have the run of the place. NYC peeps, MFLers, and well-wishers from all over descended upon the pub, including Mr. M. Fine formerly of DC, currently of Austin who shared a most fascinating story about an event called “ChickenShit Bingo” (where a chicken is fed massive amounts of food …and perhaps laxative, then put in a cage with various holes similar to that of a bingo board… and it’s droppings determine what letter-number combo is being called) ChickenShit Bingo — phenomenal.

Coincidentally, Absolut was sponsoring some promotion where any Absolut drink was free for a certain amount of time..I didn’t take as much advantage as I could’ve because I was sponsoring my own event called “Drink As Many Heinekens As You Can In A Three Hour Period” — that event was a success.

Post-BRP half of us moved on to a bar called “B-Side(s)?” where a jukebox and a PacMan/Frogger/Galaga table-top combo was at our disposal. Erik D. took full advantage of the jukebox, determining the music for the evening.. a quality mix of Social Distortion, Run DMC, The Police and others became the soundtrack for an excellent post-brp-wrap-party.

Stumbling onward around the 130AM we arrived at Knicks (pronounced Kuh-nicks) for late night fare. I had the obligatory blueberry pancakes and vanilla ice cream while D’s friend Courtney determined that our fellow diner, reading his newspaper quietly two booths over, needed to shave his face to attract females and made sure he was aware of the fact.

An excellent evening of tomfoolery, alcohol, Mike D’s half-birthday, thin-crust pizza and pancakes was had and a big congratulations again to M. Ayers who continues to achieve things that most of us can’t expect to achieve in a dozen lifetimes.

……. …. …………… …. …

Don Knotts died! Poor Mr. Furley. Passed away at 81, this weekend. A native of Morgantown, WV.

Also, the Dad from “A Christmas Story” died! :( Darren McGavin passed away at 83. Those dang Bumpus-hounds.

The Oscars are coming up in less than a week and there’s song that’s nominated from “Hustle & Flow” called “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp” — the song has 10 repeated words which would not pass network clearances. An OSCAR-friendly version of the song has to be re-recorded.

…………. ……. .. … …
Commenting should be working again. (The doo-hickey needed to be connected to the whatzu-mo-gidget.)
