Germany or Florida?
One of the funniest games that was played on Loveline was something called “Germany or Florida” — where a caller presents a news story and the hosts, Adam and Drew had to guess if the story took place in Germany or Florida — you can catch older episodes of the show at the Loveline archive.
As a tribute, I have pulled several stories. Your job is to submit your guesses for each story — did it take place in Germany or Florida? No search engines allowed. Good luck!
1. A warehouse at a tire factory has been completely destroyed by fire. 400 firefighters responded to the blaze, where 20,000 tires went up in smoke. The tire storage depot , which borders on the manufacturing facility, collapsed during the fire. “We had to give up on the storage area in order to save the adjoining production facility”, explained a spokesperson. One firefighter was slightly injured. Meanwhile, the fire crews have been able to contain the blaze so that other parts of the factory remain safe from the flames. Enormous flames and thick, black, choking smoke hindered the firefighting operations. At this time, the cause of the fire is not known.
2. Two armed men shot one convenience store clerk and pistol-whipped another while robbing the store. The bandits waited for the clerks to close before ordering them back inside shortly after 10 p.m. They took an undisclosed amount of cash and lottery tickets and shot one clerk in the leg and pistol-whipped the other. Both employees, who were not identified, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Miller said. It was unclear Thursday night whether either was taken to a hospital.
3. A music teacher has been sentenced to three years and nine months in prison for sexually abusing children. The 35 year-old defendent made a confession before the start of the trial. The music teacher apologized to both his victims, a nine year old and an eleven year old. Police found up to 2,000 files with pornographic images of underage children and sexual abuse of small children at the defendants house.
4. A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday and charged with domestic violence after police say he grabbed his girlfriend by the arm and twisted it and then pushed her to the ground. Reports say he argued with his girlfriend before the attack
5. A a 29-year-old computer specialist has been sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment for possession of child pornography “The material contains the most reprehensible acts imaginable” said the judge. The material shows sexual intercourse with infants and children as well as other sexual perversions. The 17,000 photographs and videos found with the convicted man include only what the software inspection group identified. He may, in fact, have downloaded much larger amounts of child pornography from the Internet.
