will ferrell, an old story & starman

From Carrie — funny funny stuff… Will Ferrell needs to get back to SNL stat.

About this time last year, I was taking a creative writing class — something to divert my mind away from the day-to-day, meet some new people..etc… I wrote a story about a young couple that fell in love, aged together, fought, cried — and it was narrated throughout the history of their relationship — I never really went back to punch it up but I was relatively proud of it, for the little amount of time I devoted to the story.

I’ve begun a new story recently — it’s about a kid who started working at a small bakery. The head chef hired him right out of culinary school because this kid knew a LOT about making pies, cakes, bagels — you name it. “We’re going to be the biggest, sweetest smelling bakery, kid.”

Several years passed away, while the young baker dreamed of one day making the ultimate pumpkin muffin in a vast, sweet smelling bakery, yet he still committed himself to his everyday obligations at the small bakery to support himself despite his waning confidence with the bakery’s management. Then one day the head chef decided, “You know what? I’m a complete moron. Let’s not make cakes, or pies or muffins — no one likes those! Let’s make furry time-traveling robots ! You went to culinary school, so you know how to make robots — I mean, time travel is REALLY the same exact thing! Do me a favor and have 75,000 of those on my desk by tomorrow.”
While dabbling with some preliminary sketches of a miniature flux-capacitor, the young baker looked at his draft and thought, “I wonder what I should wear to my interview with Pillsbury.”

That’s about as far as I’ve gotten… I’ll let you know how it turns out.

One movie that doesn’t get enough play is “Starman” — I just can’t get sick of it; Jeff Bridges as Karen Allen’s alien + dead husband. I think the writer was a big fan of dessert — there is more than one scene where cake and/or pie is being enjoyed. It’s been on HBO Family all week for you extended tier mofos.

I have Rachael Yamagata’s “1963″ bouncing around in my head. The album is good. Get it.
