Invention of the Crossword

In 1913 on December 21 the world’s first crossword was published. At the time it was called a ‘word-cross’. Ya learn something new everyday, don’t ya?!

Speaking of crosswords, Valentine’s weekend begins today. It was invented in 1952 by Dr. Emmet J. Hallmark in a secret laboratory in Valley Hill, NJ. Experimentation with winged fat babies, nougat-filled chocolates, rose petals and stuffed droopy eyed basset hounds carrying ‘Wuv Potion’ produced an annual concoction that has evolved into the popular nonsectarian holiday we have grown to love today!

An oldie but goodie from Liz and the Modern Humorist — the perfect Valentine’s cards.
