MZ + Dan Band + NYC

As promised, I have many fun pics with my new
camera. I brought it with me to NYC this weekend. Reason for this
weekend’s NYC visit: To check out target=_blank>‘The Dan Band’ at the Avalon on 6th Ave. A very
cool club, similar to DC’s ‘Five’, that used to be a church. The Dan
Band sings hilarious covers and normally only play in small LA
clubs. That picture of them onstage was during the best song of the
night: Wilson Phillips ‘Hold On’. I was literally in pain from
laughing.

You might know them from the wedding scene in the
movie ‘Old School’ They sang their rendition of ‘Total Eclipse of
the Heart’. Good stuff. Anyway, whilst standing in line to pick up
my tickets a nice couple came up to me and handed me their backstage
wristbands. “Party with the Dan Band, dude. Have a good night.” So
I’d like to thank random couple wherever you are.

So after
the show, I hung out with target=_blank>Dan and the Dan Band for awhile, which was great.
They were flattered I came up from DC. Rock stars. Gotta love ‘em.
target=_blank>Darryl of the Dan Band was the nicest guy ever –
I had to compliment him on the amazing choreography. Hanging outside
with their NY publicist and the band, Darryl passed me a more, fun
kind of cigarette. When in Rome, eh?

I recognized another
familiar face and had to say hello to target=_blank>Martha Plimpton, who also came to check out the
hilarity that is ‘The Dan Band’. She was in a movie called ‘The
Goonies’. Plus a few others. A tidbit of our convo:

“Hey,
Marty! People used to call me Marty in high school!” “Marty with a
‘Y’ or with an ‘I’?”
“Marti with an ‘I’.”
“Ah. Marty with a
‘Y’ is better.”
“Aww, yeah it is.”

I also ran into this
guy, target=_blank>Jason Kravits who used to be in ‘The Practice’
who’s originally from Rockville, MD. We bonded over ‘Beltway’
talk.

After some drinks, I met some new peoples Felicia &
Sarah. Felicia handles real estate for some big folks in NYC. She
talked about selling Roger Clemens’ new pad in the upper east side.
I don’t know what Sarah does. She was kind of drunk and lame. But
Felicia accidentally mentioned that Britney was coming on after the
Dan Band.

“Um. Britney? Britney who?”
“Yeah. Do you know
of other singers named Britney?”
“Huh. Well that’s kind of
cool.”
“Yeah, I wasn’t supposed to say that. MTV is doing
‘mtvJammed’ here tonight, where they do a surprise concert. A friend
of a friend told me.”

Visions of having a photo of Britney
Spears and I hanging out danced through my head until I found out
from the sound guys she wasn’t coming on till 3:30am. It was only 12
and friends were hanging out at a nearby pub, so I said fuck it. I
wasn’t trying to wait around for that. Britney’s SO Zap 1,
anyway.

So I grabbed target=_blank>a taxi in the pouring rain and headed off to
Hudson St. to meet up with some real people.

target=_blank>Erik & Sean welcomed me to target=_blank>the pub. target=_blank>Tyler was in a much better mood than normal
because Diedre bought him target=_blank>a new jelly bracelet! Then target=_blank>Lauren took my hat, but I still love her. target=_blank>Mary discussed her plans for MFL domination. At
the time I’m writing this, Sunday evening, she is winning week 7 of
our MFL pool with 9 correct picks. Football
schmootball.

Saturday AM, I picked up bagels & target=_blank>crepes for Mike and Diedre. Food is good. I’ve
decided I’m going to diet until my Mom’s Thanksgiving feast in 38
days. By diet, I mean exercise my stomach enough so I can eat as
much food as possible. After breakfast, and watching target=_blank>a bit of ‘Goonies’ co-starring my girl Martha P.,
we went up to the upper east side to check out target=_blank>Mike’s new digs. Located in a quieter, more mature
section of NYC. I’m very excited to take advantage of it in the near
future.
